Arrive In Edinburgh

Sept. 6th, Arrive in Edinburgh after your flight from the USA
and you will be met by your tour director and coach
with Driver. Morning guided tour of the city and it’s
outskirts with a visit to Rosslyn Chapel on the
south side of the city. Check in to hotel in
the afternoon and have a chance to relax
before we meet for a social to meet your

Glamis Castle home of the Lyon Clan & Lunch in the Castle

Sept. 7th, After your good Scottish Breakfast, we head north out of Edinburgh over the New Forth Road Bridge which was recently opened by the Queen, and into the Kingdom of Fife where we pass some beautiful scenery. We head north to Glamis Castle, where the Late Queen Mother was born and raised and have a private lunch in the Castle followed by a guided tour of this very haunted Castle, by one of their knowledgeable guides. We then continue northeast to our hotel for the evening in the Grampian area. Welcome Dinner Inc. tonight. Overnight Muckrach Lodge. (BL)

North to the Black Isle

Sept. 8th, Today we depart from our hotel and head north over the Kessock bridge at Inverness up into the Black Isle and Ross & Cromarty district which is Ross Country. Our first stop is at Clynelish Distillery for a tour and tasting of this local Single Malt Scotch. We then head back south to Golspie where we have a tour of Dunrobin Castle, seat of the Duke of Sutherland, where hopefully we can see the Falconry as well as the beautiful gardens after the tour. Our next stop is at Tain Pottery for a visit, then spend time in the town for the rest of the afternoon. Overnight Tain at Mansfield Castle. (BD)

Tain to Inverness

Sept. 9th, We head south today with a morning visit
to Balnagowan Estate, where the Ross Castle stands
and we visit the beautiful grounds and gardens
(It’s a private home so we can’t go in the Castle).
We then head to Fortrose Cathedral, episcopal seat
of the medieval Scottish diocese of Ross where we visit this ruined historical church. We then head south to Culloden Battlefield, where the last land battle on British soil took place in 1746, where Bonnie Prince Charlie tried to retake the throne of Scotland. We learn the story of the battle in the Visitor Centre and have the opportunity to walk on part of the field. We then make a short stop at Clava cairns which are burial mounds and standing stones, the standing stones that were the inspiration for Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series. Over the Sea to Skye

After our good Scottish breakfast, we head into Inverness for a morning of shopping and exploring this quaint highland city. Our next stop is at Urquhart Castle, once the largest of Scottish Castles nestled on the banks of Loch Ness, so you can also go Nessie spotting if you like. We continue south west along the road to the Isles and our final stop of the day is at the beautiful Eilean Donan Castle, famous for being the most photographed castle in Scotland. We then drive over the Bridge to the Isle of Skye to our hotel for the night. Overnight Broadford Hotel, Isle of Skye. (B)

Sheep Farm on Skye

Sept. 11th, After breakfast, we head north on the island to visit a working Sheep farm and croft run by a local couple, and learn what life is like living and working a croft. We then make a short stop in Portree, the main town on the island to see some quaint shops with local products, inc. soap, jewellry and locally made items before we head south off the island via the late afternoon ferry from Armadale to Mallaig. Once at Mallaig we drive along a very scenic route which is the route the Jacobite Steam Trains takes that was used in the Harry Potter films. Overnight at Glenfinnan House Hotel, (BD)

Isle of Skye to Mull

Sept. 12th, After breakfast, we have time to visit the Glenfinnan Monument and climb to the top if you want, and then we make a quick stop at the Caledonian Canal to see how this series of 9 locks transports boats along the series of Lochs and rivers that make up the canal. We then head to the famous Glencoe valley, the haunted glen where the Massacre of Glencoe happened in 1692. You hear the story and learn about this sad day in Scottish history. We continue south through some stunning scenery to the quaint town of Oban, known as the Gateway to the Isles, and we take the afternoon ferry from Oban to the Isle of Mull where we spend the night in a local Hotel. Overnight Tobermory Hotel, Isle of Mull. (B)

Day trip to Staffa and Iona, Isle of Mull

Sept. 13th, We take a day tour on the local bus to Iona, where St Columba brought Christianity to Scotland from Ireland in 562 and we also take a boat ride to the Isle of Staffa, said to be the other end of the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland and see Fingal’s Cave and all the unique rock formations along with wildlife such as Puffins. We then return back to Mull on the passenger ferry and bus back to our hotel. Overnight Isle of Mull. (B) (or coach and driver have a day off today)

Glen Lyon and Pitlochry

Sept. 14th, We return by ferry to Oban and have some free time in the town, before we head to Killin, a lovely town with the Falls of Dochart running through the center of town. We then take the back roads through Glen Lyon for a photo stop and wander, before we get to Bridge of Balgie, all Lyon country. Our next stop is at Fortingall to see the ancient Yew tree which is said to be 2000–3000 years old. We then have a tour of the Scottish Crannog Center and see how these water houses were built and used Thousands of years ago. Overnight Pitlochry at Craigatin House. (B)

Kelpies and Edinburgh

Sept. 15th, After breakfast we drive to Bridge of Allan, with a short photo stop at The Wallace Monument named for Sir William Wallace. After our visit we head to Falkirk to see the Kelpies, the award winning large Horse head monuments recently erected in Helix Park. We then head on back to Edinburgh where we have some free time to explore. Overnight Edinburgh. (B)

Day to Explore Edinburgh

Sept. 16th, Free day to explore the city, possibly take a double decker bus ride, visit Edinburgh Castle, (PASS inc), The Scotch Whisky Center, Holyrood Palace and numerous free museums around the city or great shopping and restaurants. There is lots to do here. (entry not inc. other than Edin. Castle & Hop on/Hop off bus). Final Night Dinner. Overnight Edinburgh. (BD)
