Travel to the Scottish Borders

We head south this morning to Burns Country where we visit the Robert Burns Museum, the most famous Scots Bard, author and Poet. We see the quaint town of Alloway where he was born, and the cottage he was born in. Wander over the Brig O’Doon and learn the story of his life in the Museum. We then head east into the Border where we will spend the night in a quaint Inn in Melrose, in the Scottish Borders. Overnight Burts Hotel, Melrose. Welcome Dinner Inc. (D)

Travel around the Borders

After your good Scottish Breakfast, we visit the home of Sir Walter Scott, probably Scotland’s most famous Author, Abbotsford, and Traquair House along the Tweed River. We also have a visit to Lochcarron Weavers, where we hear the history of how tartan is made. We will also stop at one of the Border Abbeys. Some free time to explore Melrose too. Overnight Melrose. North to Pitlochry

After our good Scottish Breakfast, we depart north towards Edinburgh where we stop on the outskirts at Rosslyn Chapel where we visit this beautiful, historical chapel built by William Sinclair in the 1300s, who was the Earl of Orkney. Rosslyn Chapel was part of the Da Vinci Code Novel and was used as part of the filming. We continue north with stop at Scone and a tour of Scone Palace, where the Kings of Scotland were crowned on the Stone of Destiny. We continue on to Pitlochry where we arrive mid afternoon with some free time in this lovely Highland town. Overnight Pitlochry. Optional visit to Edradour Distillery, the smallest distillery in Scotland. (B)

Travel to Aberdeenshire

Today we head north through the Cairngorm Mountains, and our first stop is for a tour of Speyside Cooperage where the whisky barrels are re-engineered for more usage. You see how they are handled and repaired by the local Coopers and learn the history of them. We then head to a local Distillery since we are on the Distillery Trail, and tour one of the world’s most famous Distilleries, Glenlivet. We head to Aberdeenshire where we will be staying for the next two nights. Overnight Aberdeenshire. (B)

Explore Dolphin Coast

After Breakfast we head to Fraserburgh to the Lighthouse Museum for a tour of the museum and the lighthouse. We also visit the village of Pennan where the film Local Hero was filmed, a quaint fishing village on the coast. We have a visit to Fyvie Castle where we learn the history of this most haunted of castles that has been featured in many documentaries on ghosts on TV. Overnight Aberdeenshire. (B)

Travel to Inverness Area

After our good Scottish breakfast, we depart along the northern coast road, called the Dolphin Coast. We stop at Spey Bay at the Dolphin Center for a visit and then on to Portknockie where we take a walk along the cliffs to see Bow Fiddle Rock, a beautiful naturally carved Rock at the edge of the sea that is said to look like the bow of a Fiddle. we depart towards Inverness going through some beautiful scenery and we stop at Culloden Battlefield where the last land battle on British soil took place when Bonnie Prince Charlie tried to reclaim the throne. We then make the short drive to Clava Cairns which was the inspiration for the books written by Diana Gabaldon, the Outlander Series. We learn about the history of the cairns and experience the mystical feeling around this area, There are some lovely views to be seen before we head to our hotel for the night. Overnight outside Inverness. (B)

Travel to Isle of Skye

Today we head the short distance to Wardlaw Mausoleum which is the burial place of the Lovat Frasers, inc. the Old Fox, which was mentioned extensively in the Outlander Series. We then continue west to the lovely village of Plockton which has stunning views over to the Isle of Skye, our ultimate destination. After time in Plockton, we head south to the main road to Skye where we visit the most photographed Castle in Scotland, Eilean Donan, which has been used in many films and TV shows, inc. The World is Not Enough, and the Highlander Series. We tour the castle and have time to take some memorable photos before we head over the Bridge to Skye. We arrive in Broadford for the next two nights stay. Overnight Isle of Skye. (BD)

Explore Skye

Today we depart after your Good Scottish Breakfast and we depart along the single track road to Elgol where we have a boat ride into the back of the Cuillin Hills to Loch Corruisk where we stop for an hour or so to hike the short distance to the Loch (not overly strenuous) where you can get some amazing views. The Loch is only accessible by boat/hike or hiking over the Hills. We return back to Elgol and back to the main road where we head north to Portree where you have some free time for lunch and some shopping or exploring. Overnight Skye. (B)

Travel to Isle of Harris

After Breakfast we have a later departure today and head north past the Old Man of Storr, stop at Kilt Rock and on up to the Trotternish Peninsula where we drive around the Northern end of the island past some stunning scenery. We stop at the ruins of Duntulm Castle where you have the opportunity to walk to the ruins before we end up at Uig with time for lunch before we catch the early afternoon ferry (the only one on a Sunday) to the Isle of Harris. We head south on the island to St Clements Church, a historical church owned by the McLeod’s who owned a lot of the island in the past, located at the tip of the island. We drive past some of the stunning beaches of Harris, of which Luskentyre persistently gets voted among the top. Overnight Tarbert, Isle of Harris. (B)

Explore Harris and Lewis

We have a morning visit to the new Distillery, the Isle of Harris Distillery where we have a tour of the process of whisky and Gin making. Afterwards we head north around the Isle of Harris onto the Isle of Lewis which is attached to Harris, and we stop at the world Famous Callanais Standing Stones where we hear the history of the area and can walk among the stones and get a glimpse of life during Neolithic times. We then continue north to Gearranan BlackHouse Village, a cluster of small cottages that are now a museum of the Isles, where they tell us the history of Peat, and Weaving and the way of life on these far flung islands in the North Atlantic. We have lunch along the way in a quaint café, before we head to The Butt of Lewis where we get some amazing views of the cliffs. Hopefully on a sunny day. We return to Tarbert for the evening. Overnight Tarbert. (B)

Travel to Glenfinnan

Tuesday, Today we depart on the 11.40 am ferry from Tarbert back to the Isle of Skye where we drive across the island south to Armadale where we get the ferry back to the Mainland. Time permitting we can possibly visit the Fairy Pools at Skye, which is a walk of about 1 hour roundtrip, up into the Cuillin Hills to see the now famous pools where often locals go swimming in the stealy cold water. (Not a hard walk). We then head to Armadale where we get the short ferry ride back to the mainland. We continue along the scenic Road to the Isles and we stay the night in Glenfinnan, Overnight Glenfinnan. (BD)

Travel to Glasgow

Wednesday, After we depart we stop at the village of Glenfinnan and have the opportunity to climb to the top of the monument if anyone wants (Must be booked in advance) and see the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which was used in the Harry Potter Movies along with the Jacobite Steam Train. We may pass the train as we drive along. Our next stop is at Glencoe, the location of where Hogwarths Castle was built during the filming of the first film of Harry Potter. We stop at the visitor centre and also hear the history of the area and the Massacre of 1692. We then continue on to Doune, to visit the ruins of Doune Castle, where lots of filming for the Outlander Series is done. Afterwards we head on into Glasgow we stay at a hotel at the airport for our final night. Final Night dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight Glasgow airport hotel. (BD)
